This page contains information about the how to manage the languages which the Flexiant Cloud Orchestrator user interface can be displayed in, including adding new translations, changing the display language, and modifying existing translations.

The translation engine does not translate any element of the user interface that can be modified, such as a tab name, product offer name, or widget name. If you want to have the translation system attempt translate a string which can be modified, for example a resource name, prefix the resource name with #__. You will of course need to add the appropriate translation for it to the translation(s) of your choosing.

The languages available to child billing entities, customers, and users are determined by the translations that the MBE has made available to them.

You can only modify a translation or change the display language to the language represented by it if you are the owner of the translation. You become the owner of a translation by either uploading a language file (a file containing a list of strings and the individual translations for these strings), or by modifying an existing translation which someone has made available to you.

Translations that have been made available to you, but you do not own, are displayed in the Parent drop down when creating a translation. In order to modify a translation (or change the display language to the language it represents) in this menu you must create a translation based on it. For more information, see Creating a translation below.

Language files for Spanish (European), French (European), German, and Russian are available from http://marketplace.flexiant.com. For information about how to create a translation using these files, see Creating a translation  below.

For more information, see the sections and pages below.

Obtaining a list of translations

This action can only be performed by the master billing entity.

To obtain a list of the UI elements that can be translated:

  1. Show the admin page by clicking the Admin link in the page navigation menu.
  2. Click on the Platform tab.
  3. On the Translations widget, select the check box to the left of the System Default translation.
  4. Click on the Action menu in the lower left hand corner of the Translations widget.
  5. Select the Download Full option from the menu.
  6. Choose where to save the file.
  7. Click the Save button.

The translatable UI elements are represented in this file in the form "Key": "Translation". The Key value should not be translated.

Do not use Windows notepad or OSX TextEdit to modify translation files, as these have been determined to cause problems.

Creating a translation

To create a translation:

  1. Show the admin page by clicking the Admin link in the page navigation menu.
  2. Click on the Platform tab.
  3. On the Translations widget, click the Create button.
  4. Specify the following:
    • Name - the name to give the translation. This will usually be the language the translation represents.
    • Parent - the translation the new translation is based on. Any missing individual translations in the new translation will be replaced by their equivalent from the parent translation. The system default is UK English.
    • Language - the language the translation represents.

It is very important that you select a language which accurately reflects the language represented by the translation. If, for example, you create a translation containing Chinese characters and set the Language to English, your browser may display Chinese characters when it thinks it is appropriate to display English characters. For more information about which language settings override which, see Order of precedence for language settings.

    • Region - the country the language represented by the translation is spoken in.

If your browser is configured to detect which language to display based on the region of your internet connection, it is very important that this accurately reflects the language represented by the translation.

  5. Do one of the following as required:

    • To create the translation based on a JSON file, select the required file and click the Open button.

    • To create the translation based on the parent translation, skip to the next step. The new translation will be identical to the parent translation, but you will own it.

  6. Create the translation by clicking the  button.
